Budugu is rounding up nearby spots…
Last updated 12 October 2026
Budugu is a community map of dog-friendly places, run by Priyank Chevendra, an individual based in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. This page explains what Budugu collects, why, who else can see it, and how to get it deleted. Questions about any of it: privacy@budugu.in.
Your account
Your email address and a password; or, if you sign in with Google, your email address and the name and picture on your Google account; or, if you sign in with Apple, the email address Apple shares and, the first time, the name you let Apple share. If you choose Apple's “Hide My Email”, Budugu only ever sees a private relay address that forwards to you. You choose a display name, which other dog parents see. Budugu never asks for your address, phone number or payment details, and never asks about your dog.
When you sign up, you confirm you're 18 or older. Budugu never asks for your date of birth: it keeps only the fact that you confirmed, and when. If you say you're under 18, no account is created, and an existing account is deleted.
What you post
Places you add (including the map location you pick for them), photos, comments, visit confirmations, answers about leash rules, shade, water and fencing, animal sightings, and reports you file about a listing or someone's post.
Your device
If you allow it, your browser or the Budugu app uses your location to sort places by how far they are and show distances. On the website it's only asked for when you tap “Sort by distance” (or used if you've already allowed it). That location stays on your device — it is never sent to Budugu's servers or stored. You can refuse, and everything else keeps working. The only location Budugu saves is the map point of a place you add.
Budugu stores two small pieces of information in your browser: a sign-in session, and the city and light or dark theme you chose. Budugu also counts page views and actions (for example, that a place was confirmed) through Vercel Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not build a profile of you.
Every photo you upload is re-saved on your device — in your browser or the Budugu app — before it is sent, and that step removes the hidden data cameras add, including the GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken. A photo Budugu can't re-save is refused, not uploaded as it is. Even so, upload photos of the place rather than of your home or street: what's visible in a photo can still give a location away.
Public to anyone, signed in or not: places you add, your photos and comments, and your display name next to them. When you confirm a visit, the place shows your first name only, as in “Confirmed by Priya 2 days ago”.
Private: your email address, your password, the people you have blocked, and the reports you file. Reports are visible only to you and to Budugu's reviewer. The person you report or block is not told who did it.
To run your account and keep you signed in; to show the places, photos and comments dog parents contribute; to work out whether a place is still trustworthy from recent visits and reports; to review new listings and reported posts; to send you the emails described below; and to understand which parts of the site get used.
Budugu does not sell your data, does not share it for advertising, and does not send marketing email.
Budugu runs on services that process data on its behalf:
Your account and everything you post is stored in India. The other providers run servers in several countries, so the parts of your information they handle — such as your email address when a sign-up email is sent, or your IP address when a page or map loads — may be processed outside India.
Your account and what you post stay until you delete them. You can delete any comment or photo you posted, and you can delete your whole account at any time from your account page.
Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your login and email, your display name, your comments and photos, your visit confirmations, your answers, your sightings and your reports. Places you added stay on Budugu for other dog parents, with your name removed from them. Facts other dog parents rely on — such as whether a place needs a leash — also stay, because they describe the place rather than you.
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask for a copy of the personal data Budugu holds about you, ask for it to be corrected or completed, ask for it to be erased, and nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or become incapacitated. Most of this you can do yourself: edit your display name when you post, delete your own comments and photos (on budugu.in for now — the app is next), or delete your account.
For anything else, or to complain about how your data has been handled, write to privacy@budugu.in. Priyank Chevendra handles these personally as Budugu's Grievance Officer: you'll hear back within 24 hours, and it will be resolved within 15 days. If you aren't satisfied, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Budugu is not meant for children. You need to be 18 or older to create an account. If you believe a child has created one, write to privacy@budugu.in and it will be removed.
Budugu is served over HTTPS, passwords are stored hashed by Supabase and are never visible to anyone including Priyank Chevendra, and the database enforces who may read or change each row rather than trusting the website to ask nicely. No service can promise perfect security, but if a breach affects your data you will be told.
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and the change is announced on the site. Continuing to use Budugu after that means the new version applies.
